Surety John Eggleston, gentleman, of Sunderland. [This could be Margaret's elder brother, bapt. 30 May Durham St. Margaret.] 1755 Entry states they were married 10 Oct at Sunderland i.e. before the licence! As was by no means uncommon where there was a large difference in the groom's and bride's ages, the ages given for the marriage bond were incorrect. Thomas would have been 47 and Margaret was 33.
