Purchased the Sockburn estate in 1682, possibly for his brother Edward in accordance with their father's will, whereby his personal estate was left in trust to William (who was executor) to buy for Edward an estate of £500 a year in the counties of Northumberland, Durham or Yorkshire. Will dated 5 May 1704, proved 1 Feb 1705/6. Son & heir William Blackett, remainder to a second or other son. Brother Sir Edward, of Newby, Bart., and his sons, first William, second Edward, third John, fourth Christopher. Wife dame Julia. Sister Midford. Cousin Christian Blackett and cousin Simpson.
