Note

Lord of Redesdale 1245-1307. 2nd Earl of Angus (1245) 1267-1307. Baron of Prudhoe 1283-1307. The first of the Anglo-French de Umfraville line to rule the Earldom of Angus in his own right. Sources: (a) A History of the Umfrevilles (b) Stirnet from The Complete Peerage (c) Blackett Ord tree (d) Wikipedia.
Inherited the manor of Barrasford, Nthmd. on the death without issue of his aunt Margery de Merlay without issue (Inq. p.m. 1289 or 1291). The site of the manor house was then worth nothing as it had been burnt by the Scots.
At his death held, inter alia, the manor of Birtley. Robert de Umfreville, aged over 30, son and next heir. (Inq. p.m.). Succeeded by his 2nd son Robert, his eldest son Gilbert having predeceased him without issue.
