Note

Son of Michael Blackett de Wham.
Assignment of mortgage of land in Cornsay from John Garthwaite of Bishop Auckland to Michael Blackett of Staindrop 1754. Undated assignment of mortgage of land and tithes in Cornsay from Michael Blackett of Staindrop to Christopher Johnson of Durham.

Said to have been the executor of a Mr. Blackett who left legacies to his daughters, which they never received. He died intestate and his estate was acquired by his stepson Christopher Johnson. In 1761 Richard Walton, Christopher Dobinson (Dobbinson), Dorothy Robson, wife of Thomas Robson, Margaret Rayne, wife of John Rayne, (cousins and four of next of kin of the deceased Michael Blackett of Staindrop) took action against Mary Blackett of Staindrop, widow and relict of the deceased, to exhibit an inventory of the deceased's goods. Walton (et al.) v. Blackett 1761.

Probably the Michael Blackett mentioned in Halmote Court Surrenders (normally of copyholds): 10 May 1739, 7 Jun 1740 (Ryton Township), 26 Apr 1751 (2), 9 Dec 1753 (Lynesack and Softley), undated George Bradley, Michael Blackett.

Grant of Administration of Michael Blackett of Staindrop dated 1760 held by Durham University. The dates of death and burial may therefore not be correct.

Note

Bond dated 14 Oct 1723 Michael Blackett (butcher), of Cokfield [sic] obtained a licence to marry Mary Johnson (widow), directed to Hamsterley. Surety William Arrowsmith, yeoman, of Durham City. [Note: married_Oct at Hamsterley.]
