The following names of Blacketts/Blackets, including those with a Christian name of Blackett, appear in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) website.

We have been able to identify all the individuals, other than William Blackett, killed in Belgium 27 Oct 1917 (see Note below) and by clicking on the name it will take you to that individual in the tree. The date of death, name, country of death and age where it appears in the CWGC entry are shown below. If you go to the entry in the tree and click on ‘Facts and events’ the War Grave Cemetery should appear. For further details, e.g. branch of service, regiment, rank etc please refer to the CWGC site.

In one or two cases the date of death falls after the cessation of hostilities, presumably because the individual subsequently died of war wounds.

Note. William Blackett, killed in Belgium 27 Oct 1917, enlisted in the 8th Battalion, 16th Rifles of the Australian Imperial Force on 14 Feb 1916 at Ballarat, Victoria. He gave his place of birth as Ballarat and his age as 27 years and 2 months. He stated he was single, a labourer, and his next of kin was shown as a friend, William Smith of Brown Hill, Ballarat. No relatives appear anywhere in his army records. He may descend from Thomas Henry Blackett, a prominent citizen of Ballarat around the likely time of William’s birth (1889/90). Thomas Henry Blackett was a successful mining speculator in the area at the time and died at Ballarat in 1891. It is possible that William was the son (perhaps illegitimate) of one of Thomas Henry Blackett’s children. Another possibilty is that he descends from the family of James Blackett of Ballarat. No proof of a connection to either family has been found however.
