On 7 Jul 1688 he sold the corn and grain tithes at Snapegate and Hole Eele to Christopher Blackett of Windy Banke, yeoman, for £1 18s.
Mentioned in Will of his uncle, Sir William Blackett.
Emissary of King Charles II to the Swedish Court at Stockholm. Died without issue. Robert Surtees stated in 1811 that he was "mad or something like it." Succeeded in his estates at Hoppyland and other land in Durham by his brother John. He was buried in a marble tomb under the floor of the chancel in the church. At burial "William Blackett, of Hoppiland, Esquire". There is also a Memorial to him on the south chancel wall at St. Mary, Ovingham, Northumberland.

Will dated 24 Dec 1695 with codicil 26 Dec 1695 left lands at Hoppyland "which I purchased of John Martindale in ye names of Edward Collingwood of Byker and John Grey merchant in Newcastle" to Mary, his wife, for life, and then to Sir William Blackett of Newcastle (his 1st cousin) and his heirs for ever. To his wife "all my lands known as Udon Foot[?] which I purchased off Christopher Crow & Thomas Garthorne - Henry Madgins in possession and after her decease to Timothy Wright." Also parcel of ground called Castle Steach[?] in Hamsterley and also 2 parcels of ground in Hamsterley called Gracks Parke[?] Brint House close to wife, after [her] decease to "poor necessitated housekeepers who lead a godly & sober life living in what parish soever. Residue to wife, sole executrix. (Memo listing all tythes owned by William and bequeathed to Mary his wife.)
Will bond 27 Mar 1696, penal sum £1,000. 1696 interrogatories of John Blackett to the witnesses to the will on the part of Mary Dennison alias Blackett, relating to a cause promoted by her to prove the will and codicil: Mary Dennison alias Blackett, former relict v. John Blackett esquire.
21 Feb 1696 depositions of the witnesses to the will and codicil, with their responses to the interrogatories of John Blackett. The correct order of pages is 4, 6, 7, 5.
