Baptized as Eliza Kavanagh, parents John Kavannagh & Elizabeth Scott. Sponsor Ellen O'Neill. Left her husband shortly before World War I, accompanied by her daughter Julia, as he was violent to her. She moved to Hesleden and took all his golden sovereigns with her in a hatbox. She took her husband to court for maintenance and Julia testified that he had been violent. One year to the day after she left him he turned up at her house and asked her back, though he was reluctant to take back Julia in view of her earlier testimony against him. However, he relented and the reunited family settled in Blackhall Rocks, near West Hartlepool. |
